Why Couples are Choosing Autumn Weddings
Autumn weddings are becoming an increasingly considered choice for couples looking beyond the traditional summer wedding.
The appeal is in the seductive nature of the season. A time when indoors takes centre stage, with an opportunity for dressing up, evening entertaining and creating a strong visual identity around the setting. Dinner unfolds long into the evening, with a romantic character all its own.
THE NEW AUTUMN WEDDING AESTHETIC
Autumn wedding styling has moved well beyond obvious seasonal decoration.
Burgundy, plum, rust and terracotta sit alongside soft neutrals, amber and gold. Candlelight changes the atmosphere of a room. Seasonal flowers bring branches, berries and texture into the design.
The fashion follows. Textured gowns, velvet, richer fabrics and statement jewellery suit the setting. For guests, autumn opens up an interesting wardrobe, particularly when the dress code calls for black tie.
The overall look - sophisticated, seductive and very much at home in a country house.
WHAT DOES AN AUTUMN WEDDING LOOK LIKE?
The day begins in the afternoon.
A ceremony leads into drinks and canapés, followed by photographs across the estate. Dinner and speeches come next, with the evening guests arriving later for the first dance.
At Deer Park, the Georgian Orangery overlooks the Italian Garden and provides the setting for the wedding breakfast. After dark, soft candlelight changes the atmosphere. The lounges provide another setting, with glowing fireplaces, made for enjoying a cocktail.
The celebration continues into the evening with dancing and the evening feast.

Autumn gives the wedding wardrobe a different direction.
Textured gowns and longer sleeves work naturally with the season. Velvet and richer fabrics bring another dimension to evening dressing, while statement jewellery and beautiful outerwear can become part of the look.
For guests, black tie works particularly well against a country-house setting after dark.
-
Autumn florals are naturally expressive.
Branches, berries and seasonal foliage introduce texture, while deeper shades such as burgundy, plum and rust create a stronger palette. Gold and amber details can bring warmth to the table.
-
The menu naturally moves towards the season.
Deer Park's autumn/winter menu includes dishes such as cured salmon, Devon Blue with sweet onion, roast chicken with wild mushrooms and butternut squash and sage ravioli.
Desserts bring chocolate, berries, ginger and butterscotch into the menu, while Deer Park Mulled & Spiced Cider provides a seasonal welcome.
Why is Deer Park so suited to an autumn wedding?
The house has a natural presence at this time of year.
The lounges, Orangery and other reception spaces offer a strong setting for a wedding, with artwork, antiques, furnishings and fireplaces giving the interiors plenty of texture. Outside, the estate provides the backdrop for the earlier part of the day, with the Italian Garden visible from the Orangery.
The result is a setting that works across the whole celebration, from the ceremony and drinks through to dinner and the evening.

At Deer Park, the recommended timeline moves from an afternoon ceremony into drinks and photographs before the wedding breakfast at 3.30pm.
Tea and coffee follow, with evening guests arriving at 7pm. The first dance and cake cutting take place at 8pm, followed by the evening feast at 9pm.
Carriages are at midnight.
The timings can be adapted around the couple's plans, but the structure gives a useful picture of how the day can move from afternoon into evening.
